Upcoming Events

As we, my family and I, move toward the conclusion of one project we find ourselves moving toward the next! The house building project, while being far from complete, slows down, we now get to move on to more projects that we are excited about. One of these projects will be to get the wheels under the True Wellness Training project and get the calendar ready to deliver the services in Vanjärvi under the “True Wellness Flag”. The service delivery in the True Wellness Training will include:

– Exercise Training – to address your individual needs from sport specific training to weight loss

– Physiotherapy – active therapy training to give our clients the tools they need to address the “aches and pains” coming from what life throws at us

Exercise Groups – Starting with the kids and youth wrestling and activity groups and expanding as we see the demand

Sports massage – Outside of the “physiotherapy menu” for those that just want to try to relax those already worked muscles

Keep an eye out for our calendars of events and classes or get a hold of us to book an appointment.

What is wellness?

For me, Wellness is:

(Yes, I used wikipedia — sorry for those of you checking references!)

Under the “About” section on this True Wellness Training website you will also find the dictionary definition of wellness. For some time now I have been trying to incorporate the term and area of wellness into other groups that I work with in the healthcare profession. And much to my surprise I find the term getting frowned upon and looked away from — partly do to the efforts of the “alternative medicine” groups claiming the word for themselves. The biopsychosocial approach to healthcare has shown that if you treat the body and the mind responds better, and if you address the mind then the body responds better — “treat the person as a whole”. And working toward preventing illness and prolonging life, instead of merely “treating a disease once it has taken hold” — is just common sense not to mention good healthcare economics!

It is high time that the word “wellness” is reclaimed! Wellness is promoting good healthy living which includes exercise and activity; a clear approach to nutrition (and supplementation if it is needed); as well as the clarification of a well balanced lifestyle (meaning a smooth integration of the family, work, and social elements).

For those of you looking for the “homeopathic”, “alternative medicine”, or “alternative healing” associations with wellness, then turn away from True Wellness Training. For those of you looking for good, realistic, and individually functional approaches to improving your health and lifestyle, then follow along to see how we grow!
